Complies with Four Thirds standard
The DMC-L1's lens mount system adopts the open format of the Four Thirds system, developed as a common standard for digital cameras. The Live MOS sensor it incorporates is a 4/3-type image sensor. This means that the DMC-L1 can be used with lenses made by a variety of manufacturers, giving users a host of equipment options. In the Four Thirds system, the lens diameter is larger than the image circle, making it possible to design the lens so that the light passes on a straight path to the image sensor. As a result, lenses for digital cameras can be created in a size smaller than those that complied with 35mm film SLR camera standards, meeting the needs of today's digital age.

The Leica D Vario-Elmarit lens, the first interchangeable lens designed specifically for digital cameras to bear the Leica brand name, is a standard zoom lens developed jointly by and combining the optical technologies of Leica Camera AG and Panasonic. A new set of quality standards were created specifically for this lens, to ensure that it would bring out the best performance of the camera it is coupled with.

With a focal length range equivalent to 28mm (wide) to 100mm (medium telescopic) on a 35mm film camera, the Leica D lens provides exceptional results with everything from portraits to landscapes. This bright f2.8-3.5 lens allows maximum use of the out-of-focus techniques possible only with an SLR camera.

The lens also provides outstanding macro shooting, thanks to a 29mm minimum shooting distance (0.32x maximum magnification, 35mm equivalent) across the entire zoom range. From landscapes to portraits to macro close-ups, the Leica D zoom lens excels in a wide variety of shooting situations.

The lens system comprises 16 elements in 12 groups and features two large-diameter glass-molded aspherical lenses. Meeting the Leica D lens lofty quality standards, this lens unit provides a superior optical performance and matches perfectly with the digital SLR camera body. The result is exquisite rendering, with images that offer clarity, depth, and rich expression from corner to corner, even at a fully open aperture.

The optical image stabilization system--MEGA O.I.S--provided in the lens unit helps minimize blurring to ensure that photos are sharp even in situations when hand-shake is typically a problem, such as when taking macro close-ups, indoor shots, or night portrait shots. Thanks to the gyrosensors and Venus Engine Plus LSI built into the lens, the system detects camera movement at a rate of 4,000 times per second, so hand-shake compensation is extremely precise.

There are two image-stabilization modes. In Mode 1 the hand-shake compensation function remains active at all times, so the image in the LCD and viewfinder is clear, which makes shots easier to compose. In Mode 2 the system activates only when the shutter button is pressed; this provides a more precise compensation performance. Users can select whichever mode they prefer in a specific situation.

Full-time Live View allows users to shoot in new ways
Panasonic has developed a full-time Live View function that lets users accurately compose photos while viewing the high-resolution 2.5-inch LCD screen. In previous digital SLR cameras, a "live" image could be seen only through the viewfinder. The new full-time Live View function thus represents a dramatic change in digital SLR photography, giving users new ways to shoot.

Full-time Live View provides a 100 percent view field coverage (that is, the same image seen by the image sensor) on the DMC-L1's large, 2.5-inch LCD monitor. Users can compose a shot easily and accurately while viewing the screen. The screen also displays critical information such as a live histogram and white balance, which users can easily check prior to snapping the shot. When a tripod is used, full-time Live View lets users compose the image without bending to peer through the viewfinder. In these ways, users will find that full-time Live View gives them both more shooting flexibility and greater convenience.

The Live MOS image sensor must remain ON when full-time Live View is in use. The Live MOS sensor has a full-time image output function that sends a signal directly to the LCD, allowing high-quality display on the LCD screen of the same image seen in the sensor. Note that when the full-time Live View function is active, the internal mirror is in the raised position, which means that there will be no image visible in the optical viewfinder.

Users can take advantage of the revolutionary full-time Live View function in both Autofocus and Manual Focus modes. When using Manual Focus, users can select a particular area within the frame and enlarge it up to 10x. Then, viewing the DMC-L1's 2.5-inch 207,000-pixel LCD screen, it is easy to check the focus. It is also possible, by pressing the aperture preview button, to check the depth of field. When the aperture is being adjusted, the DMC-L1 automatically adjusts the brightness of the full-time Live View image on the LCD screen to prevent it from becoming too dark to see. This makes it easier to check the depth of field.

4/3-type 7.5-megapixel, high-resolution, energy-saving Live MOS sensor
The Live MOS sensor used in the DMC-L1 provides the beautiful images with delicate gradation and wide dynamic range that only a CCD image sensor can provide. To this it adds the low energy consumption only a CMOS sensor can offer. The use of dedicated processing technology enables operation at a low voltage of 5V, minimizing noise in darker parts of an image. Also, photodiodes embedded deeply in the silicon layer create a structure that suppresses noise generated on the substrate surface. As a result, the white-spot pixel defects and textural roughness that often characterize images captured in dim lighting are minimized, so photos are crisp and clear.

Dust-reduction system prevents dust and other particles from degrading images
One of the most critical issues with digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses is the possibility of dust entering the camera body during lens changes. This dust can adhere to the image sensor and show up as spots on photos taken. Panasonic has solved this problem by equipping the DMC-L1 with a Supersonic Wave Filter system that uses supersonic vibration to shake off any dust clinging to the sensor. This simplifies camera maintenance and eliminates worries about dust entering the camera body when lenses are being changed outdoors, so users can enjoy themselves and just concentrate on shooting.

Venus Engine III image processing LSI
The Venus Engine III is an image processing LSI developed by Panasonic to maximize the performance of the Leica D lens and Live MOS sensor. This advanced LSI not only helps reproduce images with outstanding resolution, superior color, and detailed gradation, it also distinguishes chromatic noise from luminance noise and selectively reduces the chromatic noise, one of the chief sources of image quality problems. This helps the DMC-L1 deliver the superb image rendering one expects from a quality SLR camera. The Venus Engine III also works swiftly, helping give the DMC-L1 a quick startup time of one second, shorter shutter interval, and improved consecutive shooting performance.

Further, the Venus Engine III consumes 20 percent less power than its predecessor, the Venus Engine II. This combines with the Live MOS sensor's low energy consumption to give the DMC-L1 longer battery life. Users can take around 450 shots (CIPA standard) on a single battery charge.

Film mode
In film cameras, the brand of film used affects the color characteristics, gradation, and color saturation of the photos taken. This gives photographers the option of choosing a particular brand of film to attain a particular desired effect. The DMC-L1 provides a similar option by giving the user a total of seven "film" modes to choose from, including four color settings (Standard, Dynamic, Natural, and Smooth) and three monochrome settings (Standard, Dynamic, and Smooth). Just as photographers can switch film brands to change the imaging characteristics, DMC-L1 users can switch modes to achieve a similar effect.

Two-axis white balance adjustment
In addition to the conventional white balance setting, the DMC-L1 features a two-axis setting system that allows even finer white balance adjustment. Making adjustments along a horizontal amber-blue axis and a vertical green-magenta axis, users can set the camera for detailed color cast compensation over virtually the entire color space.

Extra Optical Zoom
When the camera is set to record at less than the maximum number of pixels, users can take advantage of an Extra Optical Zoom function. (Only applicable in using full-time Live View function.) This function alters the 7.5-megapixel Live MOS sensor's operating area, to vary the angle of view and increase the maximum zoom ratio.

Unlike a digital zoom, the Extra Optical Zoom function extends the focal length 1.5 times when the the DMC-L1 is used with the Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm/f2.8-3.5 ASPH lens provided and when shooting at 3-megapixel or a lower-resolution mode without degrading the image. Users enjoy extra zoom power without loss of picture quality.

Known problem with the 14-50 Leica lens4
This is a great camera with a stunning tack-sharp lens. That said, many owners on the Leica forum have reported a problem with the 14-50 lens that comes on the camera. The lens sometime comes with, or later develops, the problem of binding of the zoom function, which after time locks up completely or at best restricts zoom movement. Also, several new owners have reported that they have received a camera with a lens whose front end is "loose" and can be wiggled back and forth. This is alarming, but does not seem to effect the camera focus, at least on my DMC-L1 with its case of front end wobbles. Alas, also my lens seem to be developing the dreading zoom restriction about mid zoom.

So, if you do purchase this camera, do carefully check out the 14-50mm lens for what appears to be, or have been, a widespread manufacturing defect. The lens should zoom in and out smoothly. If there is a slight restriction or a "catch" in the movement, you're likely in for downline trouble.

With a defect-free lens, this camera is superb, and well worth the potential hassle of returning the product for replacement if you find yourself with a lens whose zoom function fails and binds.

The DMC-L1 is considerably less expensive than the Leica branded version, and offers the feel and advantages of the range finder cameras like the Leica M3 or the Nikon SP, so loved by photojournalists of yesteryear. Ah, but if only the DMC-L1 was as petite as the old Leica M3.

One of a kind, never to be mistaken4
When this camera was introduced I knew I wanted one. The look and feature set just appealed to me. Finally I got one. It is not a perfect camera for everyone, but get your hands on one and it speaks for itself. I love using this camera and I find it quite comfortable to use with everything where I expect it to be. Some features I particularly like are the manual controls, two-stage flash, live view, and the kit lens.

The manual controls feel more natural than using menus. I especially like the quick access buttons on the back and the drive mode and metering switches on top. Though these switches can change position easily at times, I still much prefer it to delving into a menu. I also love the two programable function buttons. This can be very useful, though be warned that one of them defaults to aperture when using a lens without the ring. But this has its workarounds.

I normally avoid using flash, but on the L1 I will try to find a way to use it. The bounce flash I find especially useful for portraits. The power of the flash I think is also very good for a built in unit. Its also amusing to see other peoples' faces when you pop the flash.

Live view is a feature many seem to scoff at, but I find it quite useful. It also helps to compensate for the viewfinder's deficiencies or when you really want to get that unique perspective.

And last but not least, the LEICA lens. I wanted a bright lens, and the L1 comes with one. Having a quality piece of glass to start with is a real plus and this lens is part of what makes the L1 the camera it is.

The L1 has its faults and quirks too.

The viewfinder is small and dark. Though I don't find it to be any darker than the viewfinder on my old Canon AE-1, it is smaller than most. But it is adequate for ordinary shooting and something you quickly adjust to. If you're shooting detail you can use Live VIew to check focus and to better view in dark lighting.

The auto focus is normally quick and near silent, but it does struggle in dim lighting or under harsh backlighting. Then the lens racks through its range and can make a bit of noise. But it is quieter than mechanical focus systems and I find it to be very accurate most of the time.

Lastly a few nit-picks. The flash being located off center from the lens axis can cause uneven lighting, but it is barely noticeable and often only occurs at either close or far distances. Also, don't use the lens hood with the flash as it causes shadows. The shutter dial is nice to use, except it doesn't turn 360 degrees. This makes switching from aperture to shutter priority a slight pain at times. But it isn't a big deal unless you switch between shooting modes a lot. Battery life isn't stellar by comparison to some others, especially if you use Live View a lot. So an extra battery would be suggested.

Overall this is a very unique piece of photographic equipment and is one you will either love or hate. But don't just take peoples' word for it. Get your hands on one and see for yourself. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm proud to own what will surely become a piece of photographic history.

I love this camera. I've used Canons and Nikons in the past, especially D30s and D40s, and I much prefer using the L1. I almost always shoot manual, and find the actual, physical controls on this to be a great improvement over all the buttons on the Canon. The design/navigation of the menu is also the nicest I've seen on a digital camera (have also owned Sony and Fuji). Picture quality is outstanding. Plus, I admit I really like walking past people carrying their omnipresent Canons and Nikons, while I'm sporting a much rarer Lumix.

The single biggest flaw with this is the viewfinder. It really is too dark - a problem common to many dSLRs which don't use pentaprisms like film SLRs. It can be worked around, but it's a real annoyance.

Also, be aware that this is not a small, inconspicuous camera.

Myself as a very long-time prosumer of Leica M 6 film camera and all its glorious lenses i frankly think this Panasonic - with a Leica objective - is better than Nikon D60 Kit. Nikon comes with an inferior lens.

The picture quality (RAW) is good and all the necessary manual controls are there beside automatic programs.

Con: noise control with big ISO numbers ( 800 +) is not good. No good for tele.

Panasonic DMC-L10 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-50mm f/3.8-5.6 Mega OIS LensI bought this camera because of the swing out viewfinder. It is a jewel of a camera. The first pictures I took few closeups of some flowers. The results were stunning.I am a little surprised that the camera doesn't sell that well. One problem is that you can't get it as a body only camera. The lens that comes with it is superb but expensive,but it is supposed to be able to take all four thirds lenses.I will get a Zukor lens longer of longer focus soon. I am really a Canon fan and have a lot of their lenses. This camera is every bit as sharp and precise. The swing out focus is nice but makes a lot of noise when you use it.Since the price has come down a bit this a real bargain.

my favorite camera5
I am a 'collector' of dslr cameras. I have just about every panasonic lumix camera available and quite a few canons, sonys, and nikons. This camera, by far, is my favorite. It is easy to handle, easy to use, totally stupid proof, and the pictures come out great. I have a Nikon d80 and it's a great camera but for me, this is still my favorite. It's just a funner camera and easier to handle. I am in no-way a professional photographer, I just love photography and this camera is a joy.

I bought this camera from Amazon.com couple of months ago (sometime in April of 2007). At the time, the newer model of Fuji DSLR, the S5, was just introduced. Although the S5 offers a lot of improvements, I decided to buy the S3. I had also looked at the Nikon SLR since I have been using Nikon for the past 35 years. I had seen many photographs taken with all of the models that I was interest in (except the Fuji-S5) and they were very close in terms of quality. Now it boiled down to other things and it was not the money issue, but in my case, the battery issue. The S3 uses 4-AA rechargable batteries. I did not buy a Nikon DSLR or the Fuji-S5 because of the use of proprietary batteries.

I have been using the Fuji-S3 along with my Nikon-F4 film camera for the past two months and I am VERY VERY please with the results. I had captured over 3000 images during my 3 week vacation with it. I had carefully examined a few hundred of the pictures I took (just in case that I didn't like the camera) and I discovered that it can deliver an exceptional quality. It shares the same Nikon lenses and I am fortunate that I have not had any incompatibility issues (I was warned about this). As of this writing, my F4 is probably going to join the F1 in the collection shelf....soon. I also bought two newer lenses from Sigma (I had never bought anything else other than the Nikon lenes) to try with the camera. Those Sigma lenses appear to diliver similar quality or in one case better than my Nikon lenses with this camera.

One complain...the ISO and the timer buttons of the S3 are placed in the most awkward positions. I am lucky that I don't change the ISO or using timer that offen otherwise this would have been one most inconvenient.

Nice images, A pleasure to use 4
This camera has been very enjoyable to use. Very comfortable large grip when handheld, nice for tripod use too. I decided on this camera when comparing images of those taken by other digital SLR's. The S3 images were the only ones that didn't appear "obviously" digital to me. I seem to find film images more aesthetically pleasing, which the S3 provides. This is my first digital SLR and has more features than I could possibly hope for. I still have not explored all the film simulation and wide dynamic range combinations and options. I found the the F2 velvia setting a bit "too" saturated, and the built in sharpening also a bit "hard". I get the best results in wide dynamic 2 mode, 12mp, and everything else set to "normal". Usually requires some brief post processing in the contrast and sharpening departments to get the results I'm looking for. I love the results in black and white. Love the aperture and shutter priority modes. My only gripe is that the external USB port became loose after about a dozen uses and just fell into the camera body. I sent it back on warranty however, and it was fixed and sent back to me in about a 4 day window. I was really amazed with Fujifilm service. As for speed, I usually shoot landscapes, and in jpeg mode, so not really an issue. I have shot fast moving birds and wildlife with no problems. As for value, its worth about 3/4 of its original price on the used market after around 9 months of use, not bad for digital cameras I suppose. And the price of a new one has actually increased since I bought one, which is hard to believe, but great! The Fuji S3 continues to please. :) enjoy.

I purchased this camera from employee discount for $900. When I got the camera it wouldn't work. After shooting one image, camera got locked up. shutter wouldn't come back down, nor switch off. I had to pull out the battery to reset. that's not the worst part, Returning back to fujifilm was so much hassle that I had call my AMEX to dispute the charges to get my full refund back. Never again will I buy fujifilm. unfortunately I work for the company ;(

Fuji S5 Pro color5
I have had the S5 pro for a little over a year. I have seen side-by-side results compared with Nikon D200 and D300 and Canon 12.1's and the Olympus flagship. Shooting in RAW the Fuji is just as sharp as any 10 to 12 megapixel camera out there. I don't like the less sharp standard settings. But what makes the Fuji chip special is the color. It's dead on; rich, finely textured, true. The design which mimicks the rods and cones of the eye works. Period. All the SLR's that have come out in the last 1 or 2 years are amazing. But the Fuji S5 still holds its own on color reproduction which probably is expected since Fuji is of course a long time leader in film manufacturing.

Was a very good low light camera4
I have owned the Nikon D70, D200 and currently still have the D80, D300 and Fuji S5. If low light photography is your cup of tea...then this is a very good camera. It beats the D70, D80 and D200 (anything over ISO 800 on these cameras are pretty much useless). However, since the D300 has arrived, (not to mention the D3), it is no longer my favorite low light camera. The D300 performs better in this area. It is also faster in fps and has a much bigger and clearer LCD screen. However, the S5 images at ISO 800 and above do give a grainy film like quality, which make the photos look quite good.
Dynamic range wise...i think the S5 is still better when set to 400%. If i had rated this camera back in Oct 2007, I would give it 5 stars. Since it is 2008 July, only 4 stars.

The bad: slow, very very bad menu (absolutely horrible!), LCD images of photo all look blurry...low resolution LCD screen?, can only use Fujifilm batteries...so your nikon ones won't be compatible!

Hyper Program function:

Pentax K10D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

Last year, when on assignment in Switzerland, I used several models of digital still cameras. I carried along the K10D, carefully testing the
first "shake reduction" I was ever to try.

Usually, I am a stickler for steadiness. Since my first days as a working
professional, it was always a must to employ the use of a tripod - not
only for longer exposures - but also for general shooting. Humans holding
cameras can almost never be quite as steady as a tripod or other camera stand. Think about it, our heartbeat causing pulse and cafeine shake in
our hands is nonexistent in a tripod. People do not always stand steadily
and firm.

My tests included handheld images with the shake reduction, tripodded
images without the shake reduction, and even handheld images without the
shake reduction, all cases using manual exposure settings ranging from
1/60th to 1/1000th sec., making notes as the images were casted on the
23.5x15.7mm CCD.

There is not enough room here to detail the hundreds of exposures made
during the three-days testing. Therefore, it shall suffice to say that
the K10D with its CCD-shifting shake reduction system allowed me to make
sharper pistures with three different lenses. Comparing the images made
on the tripod with those handheld using shake reduction there is not any
notable difference at 16X. Of course, one 6MP camera I tested, which did not have image-stabilization was used solely on the tripod, and images from it were as sharp as the handheld 10MP camera (not deploying shake
reduction and in similar lighting with auto-exposure.)

Other characteristics observed: The AF points on the viewfinder are red
and illuminated for easy visibility. The LCD display is large and sharp
and visible from a wide viewing angle. The DUST REMOVAL syatem is quite
effective. It actually shakes the CCD for dust removal.

The menu is not difficult to understand. The controls are splash and dust resistant and the cabinet parts and retractable seem to be nicely fitted
together.

The K10D had a good feel in my hands. The dials and buttons are all just
about exactly where they should be for ergonomic placement.

In the final analysis, the camera, in my judgement deserves five stars.

Great DSLR w/ weathersealing and nearly perfect ergonomics5
This was my first DSLR and it's been a great experience. It uses the same Sony sensor as the Nikon D80/D200 and if you shoot RAW, you get effectively the same results for much less cost.
On top of that, you get weathersealing so you can use it in the rain or snow or dust w/o issues.
The body feels solid unlike the plasticky XTi/XSi/D40/D60, and even the D80 to some degree.
Only nits are I wish it had a faster flash sync speed and predictive AF (the AF-C is really AF-S run continously).

I have had this camera for over one year and each day learn more about the power of this camera. Recently took photo course and many in class had high powered Nikons and Canon DSLR's. My camera kept right up and in many cases had features their cameras did not, such as built in image stablization, and raw button. Just saw new DXO website that ranks K10D above many DSLR's and higher than some more expensive DSLR's. This is a great camera but not for the novice.

Good camera for general photography but fails for long exposure work!3
I've been a serious Pentax photographer for over 20 years... so naturally, because of my investment in PK type lenses, I purchased one of the first K20D's as soon as it was available.

I should have waited!

Please understand, there is a reason for all these great reviews. It really is a good camera in many respects. However, if you have special requirements, such as long exposures (e.g. astrophotography), this is NOT the camera to purchase.

The K20D uses a new and jointly developed Samsung CMOS imager. Unfortunately, they have not worked out all the kinks... um... namely heat! As a result, the K20D produces a significant amount of noise (hot pixels) and this is why the K20D is the *ONLY* current DSLR camera that forces the user to endure an automatic DFS (Dark Frame Subtraction) for any length of exposure in Bulb mode (or any manual/automatic exposure greater than 15 seconds). This means that a 2 minute exposure is actually 4 minutes, a 30 minute exposure will take 1 hour, and so on...

If money is no object, consider Canon or Nikon. Canon is especially prized by astrophotographers as being the best DSLR for long exposures.

The other annoying problem is that the K20D is terribly slow (and even worse in low light) with auto focus! Again, Canon and Nikon do a much better job.

Other than two major complaints.... I echo the positive attributes spoken by others about this camera.

The K20D loses two stars (out of five) because of the forced DFS and high noise levels. Pentax almost made the perfect camera!

Recieved my new K20D a few days back. as the camera moved in my hands i could hear something shaking inside.

i asked Amazon to replace it, they did it very fast, and the next one has the same problem.

i wonder: all K20D are like that?

I got into photography through a Pentax SLR kit, and am returning to the Pentax fold after five years in the Canon wasteland. I couldn't be happier. Whether its the supportive and eccentric user community, the forty-plus years of compatible equipment on the market, or the high-quality, affordable lenses, Pentax people simply have more fun. Don't let your sunken costs deter you from making the switch. I sold off my Canon gear for about 80% of retail; plenty of people will pay a premium for Canon's middle-tier junk because some Anna Kournikova look-alike told them to. Now I have a premium camera and pro-level lenses to match, plus weather sealing and a camera body that's built to last.

Positive first experience5
I got into photography back in the 1980s with a film SLR camera. Since then, I had made do with some basic Kodak point and shoot digital cameras which I was very happy with, but did not offer the flexibility of an SLR. When I finally needed to get a digital SLR for a project, I admittedly didn't know a lot about the choices. I did some on-line research and realized that the Pentax offered the most flexibility. You can use rechargeable AA batteries, an SD card and ANY Pentax SLR lens ever made. That means you have access to one of the most popular lens mounts ever made. In any case, I felt that was worth the tradeoff in less resolution and the reliance on menu-driven features. So far I've been pretty happy with the camera. It seems fairly easy to use for basic photography and if you are willing to learn all of the menu options and practice, you can do all sorts of things with the camera. I don't have experience with comparable cameras from other makers such as Canon or Nikon, but I would say that if you are looking for a relatively affordable and fleixible digital SLR, this is a pretty good choice. The only thing I can see that the camera is missing is a plug for a PC-connection for an external flash, but that's a relatively small thing. The camera does have a nice Pentax-designed shake control, and apparently a unique autofocus design.

The BEST Indoor Light Digital SLR5
I actually have the K100D, not the Super, but the comments apply to either model. My daughter does gymnastics and the pictures I take are taken indoors without flash. In order to get the most benefit from this camera, DO NOT settle for the kit lens that comes with it. That lens (18-55mm) is fine for outdoor snapshots, but to really get the most of this camera, get a fast prime lens (50mm f1.4, 50mm f1.7, 50mm f2.0, 35mm f2.0, 28mm f1.8, 20mm f1.8, etc.) This camera can take pictures that I believe NO OTHER SLR can do and has 3 distinct advantages over other SLRs.

1. Shake reduction - This allows the camera to be reduce movement due to the user and keeps the photos sharper. It can be used with ANY Pentax-mount lens you put on, saving potentially huge amounts on lenses (check out others stabilized lens prices and you'll see). Some of the other Pentax bodies also have this feature and I understand that there may even be a higher degree of reduction with models like the 10D.

2. More sensitivity - You may think a 6 megapixel image is a disadvantage, but it allows the sensor to have an ISO range of 200 MINIMUM to 3200, because the sensors are larger and need less light, meaning more speed. No other currently made body that I know of has this kind of sensor sensitivity, although some bump the ISO up as high or higher with expensive, perhaps more advanced (but I don't think better results) technology.

3. More lens usage - there are more lenses available that fit on this camera than on any other brand, by far, and these lenses are often far less cost than what the new types cost. I've found that manual focus lenses are not always a disadvantage, and in fact, often get me better and faster pictures, since I can set the focus and not have to wait for the camera to do the focus function. Other Pentax bodies do the same.

So, if you want a camera for indoor shooting with the most sensitivity and not spend an arm and a leg, get this one and get a prime lens or two to go with it. You'll not only be amazed at what you can shoot, but so will your friends. I only hope Pentax comes out with a full-frame 14 megapixel version of an equivalent sensor.

Great Camera, Insane Price5
What on earth would drive someone to try and sell a K100D for nearly twice retail, when you can get either a K100D, K110D, or K200D for four hundred dollars or more less?

Buy this camera, but not at this price.

If you do read the book you will miss allot of great features.Takes great pictures and I can use all my old Pentax K mount lenses and save allot of money on new lenses.I took over 200 pictures and I'm still on the same rechargeable batteries without charging them yet.

I marked this item for purchase but apparently the month too long that I waited caused the price to rise 15%? Wow - with stores going out of business left and right, maybe we should be rethinking using Amazon who can randomly slap a 15% increase onto a product in a matter of weeks.

Even Better than my Old ME Super5
I bought a used one from Amazon Warehouse. I expected it to have some blemishes. There were none. It is like new and although I have only taken a few indoor shots, I am very impressed. I uploaded some of the pictures to my pc and you can zoom in on our cat so close you can almost count the hair in his ear. Although I am not a camera expert, I do know about resolution as I work with Photoshop and InDesign on a daily basis putting together a Motorcycle magazine. Folks this thing is great and I have not even taken any raw files yet.

nice camera4
this is a great camera. beware that some times when you take a picture it will freeze the camera and you will need to remove the battery. other than that, this is a great camera. i recommend sony, since the anti-shake is in the body, where other companies put it in expensive lenses. if you dont want to deal with the freezing of the camera, then go with a newer model, but i recommend staying with a sony. they have features that some other companies didn't put in there cameras.

I'm sooo happy I managed to get one of these before Sony made all their changes. It acts just like my Minolta Film cameras, the venerable 9000 and the newer 5 Film - easy to use menus, controls where I want them and that wonderful lighting fast autofocus. I'm not a fan of anything Sony proprietary (like the battery) but so far it's been good to me. I bought this to take pictures of my newborn son - cause face it, no P&S will ever react fast enough to catch the boy with his eyes scrunched up and tongue hanging out.

One serious con is the sheer bulk of the thing. My wife LOVED the Maxxum 5 Film, lightweight and thin for her little hands. She needs to use two hands almost exclusively for this beast. It's not a weight issue either, it's the shape of the grip. I find my fingernails grinding into the body from the way I hold the camera one handed. Better grips could be had.

There are certainly fuller featured models out there, even in this manufacturer, but really, how often do you use all those features? I know what I'm doing, I'm a photographer from way back with a Pentax K1000 knock off from Cosina, but about all I ever do is change the flash or exposure compensation settings, and usually I get better results if I use the pre-programmed modes anyway.

Takes a darn pretty picture in plain old automatic, too. Just like the Maxxum 5, if you can teach a 5 year old to frame and compose, the camera will do the rest.

Of course there's the compatibility issue with all my old Minolta glass... eh... some of it plays nice, and some of (and particularly my portrait lens) will not work in anything other than full manual. Which is okay really, better than purchasing an entire new library of Nikkor lenses.

Oh, the image stabilization program in the body? Works like a charm.

Excellent camera and lens. Terrific value and good service from supplier. Disappointed that there was an additional customs bill of £71! Could you warn customers of this charge, in future.

Despite this, at a total cost of £330, it was still a real bargain
